First off, I received a 800 Math and 590 Verbal on my GRE (still waiting for my writing scores), which is just fine as I'm going into Electrical Engineering.Why did I buy this? I was looking for a cheap book that would give me some added practice beyond the free material provided by ETS.Did it meet my low expectations of these sorts of books? Yes.How low were my expectations? After buying books like these for the ACT, SAT, some subject tests, and now the GRE I've noticed that they universally have some degree of errors and have varying degrees of correlation with the actual exams themselves. Although annoying at times, the errors really are not that important because you find them easily when you supposedly have an answer wrong but after checking you realise THEY are in fact wrong, generally by only something absurd like an added zero. Who cares! This is supposed to be practice for timing yourself, picking up some test taking tips, and to learn what sorts of dumb mistakes you tend to make. This is NOT supposed to be a source to relearn algebra from scratch or fill out your daytime-television vocabulary. If you're just a little rusty you'll be fine. I found the recommendations generally useful throughout the sections. I can't speak for the writing section though since I only read the beginning to understand the proper perspective and focus to take on it.The correlation between the practice in the book and with the actual exam wasn't perfect, but it was good enough. Make sure you take the ETS's REAL tests to calibrate your expectations and your studying. Overall I would recommend this to a friend.
This was a great tool to help prepare for the GRE. I used this over the course of several months to help prepare for the GRE. Highly recommend this to anyone preparing for the GRE!
I used this book over the period of two months to prepare for my GRE. I got a good GRE score (better than I expected) and I definitely think this book helped me out. I did, however, find a mistake in the book, which was very unnerving. Also, the code inside that was supposed to let me take an online practice test did not work.
It was a lot of help preparing myself for the test. I recommend this to all those stressing about it. Great helper and a great price
Good way to study for the GRE. Worth the money for a used one - dont buy a new one.
I have both the 2009 and this 2010 version. I honestly don't think an editor proof-read this book. It's full of horrendous and painfully obvious typos.The text is nearly identical to the 2009 version but with more typos. Apparently, Kaplan can't even copy and paste correctly.Waste of money even at $14. Buy a used 2009 version.
I'm about halfway through this book and I'm completely surprised by the number of careless errors. For example, replacing a minus sign with an equal sign on problem number 3 from the backsolving practice set on page 159. The math section is pretty much useless because I can't be sure I've caught all the errors. I bought books from two other companies that I am hoping don't have the same problem.
The GRE Prep Book was extremely helpful and cheap. I needed to study for the GREs but didn't want to spend a thousand dollars on a tutor. Reading this book not only provided helpful study tips, but the questions proved to be challenging and what you'd see on the exam. It was a great purchase and I would highly suggest it for anyone who needs to prepare for the GREs!
